Records consisting of correspondence, petitions and lists. Includes letters of recommendation, letters requesting commissions and resignations. All relate to civil and military apppointments within the Alabama Territory and many are quite revealing about territorial life. Subjects mentioned include the rapid migration of settlers into the territory, the need for law and order at the local level, corruption in local politics and the difficulties some appointees encountered while trying to fulfill their duties.
